Babel Brune
Creation
Built on the artisanal heritage of its homeland, the Lille brand BABEL BRUNE gives prominence to textile design. Each object is like a canvas, a new area of expression for Clémence and the brands and artists with whom she collaborates. The pieces designed for Tikamoon draw their inspiration from the modernist aesthetic of the second half of the 20th century. The collection is called Barbican, in reference to the famous brutalist architectural ensemble in London. Each Babel Brune x Tikamoon piece was thus designed as if it would feature in one of the flats on the Barbican estate in the City of London, so emblematic of the Sixties.
Inspiration
The Babel Brune team went out to meet independent artisans: cabinet makers, wood scorchers, couturiers, upholsterers... to bring together those with the greatest expertise and unite them around the company to make high-quality, distinctive and sustainable products. This local and flexible production tool enables innovation in techniques, and through limited-series production, bolder graphic choices. Additionally, their influences are derived from the world of art and design of the 20th century. Thus, you may find Pierre Soulages' obsessional search for the light of Outrenoir (Beyond Black) in the pieces in scorched wood, Matisse's découpage in the Babylone collection, and references to Poliakov in the Barbican wall hangings...
